Analysis of Asymptotic Preserving DG-IMEX Schemes for Linear Kinetic Transport Equations in a Diffusive Scaling

چکیده
In this paper, some theoretical aspects will be addressed for the asymptotic preserving DG-IMEX schemes recently proposed in [10] for kinetic transport equations under a diffusive scaling. We will focus on the methods that are based on discontinuous Galerkin (DG) spatial discretizations with the P k polynomial space and a first order IMEX temporal discretization, and apply them to two linear models: the telegraph equation and the one-group transport equation in slab geometry. In particular, we will establish uniform numerical stability with respect to Knudsen number ε using energy methods, as well as error estimates for any given ε. When ε → 0, a rigorous asymptotic analysis of the schemes is also obtained. Though the methods and the analysis are presented for one dimension in space, they can be generalized to higher dimensions directly.

High order asymptotic preserving DG-IMEX schemes for discrete-velocity kinetic equations in a diffusive scaling
In this paper, we develop a family of high order asymptotic preserving schemes for some discrete-velocity kinetic equations under a diffusive scaling, that in the asymptotic limit lead to macroscopic models such as the heat equation, the porous media equation, the advectiondiffusion equation, and the viscous Burgers’ equation. Our approach is based on the micromacro reformulation of the kinetic...
متن کاملEfficient Stochastic Asymptotic-Preserving IMEX Methods for Transport Equations with Diffusive Scalings and Random Inputs∗
For linear transport and radiative heat transfer equations with random inputs, we develop new generalized polynomial chaos based Asymptotic-Preserving stochastic Galerkin schemes that allow efficient computation for the problems that contain both uncertainties and multiple scales. Compared with previous methods for these problems, our new method use the implicit-explicit (IMEX) time discretizat...
متن کاملImplicit-Explicit Runge-Kutta Schemes for Hyperbolic Systems and Kinetic Equations in the Diffusion Limit
We consider the development of Implicit-Explicit (IMEX) RungeKutta schemes for hyperbolic and kinetic equations in the diffusion limit. In such regime the system relaxes towards a parabolic diffusion equation and it is desirable to have a method that is able to capture the asymptotic behavior with an implicit treatment of limiting diffusive terms. To this goal we reformulate the problem by prop...

In this paper we construct numerical schemes to approximate linear transport equations with slab geometry by diffusion equations. We treat both the case of pure diffusive scaling and the case where kinetic and diffusive scalings coexist. The diffusion equations and their data are derived from asymptotic and layer analysis which allows general scattering kernels and general data. We apply the ha...
